Torrevieja, situated next to the Mediterranean Sea, in the south of the Valencian Community, surrounded by two large natural saltwater lagoons which form the well- known "Salterns of Torrevieja", considered the biggest in Europe and second in the world.

Torrevieja is 47kms. from Alicante, the provincial capital, and about 35kms. from the international airports of El Altet and San Javier, it stands out for its transformation in recent years into a first class tourist centre in the Mediterranean. To its dry climate of 20ºC as an average temperature and sun throughout the year, other pleasant characteristics can be added, as its magnificent sand beaches, natural beauty spots, historical and artistic monuments, both in the town and its surrounding area.

Torrevieja Torrevieja was seat of the most important sailing ship fleet in the Mediterranean, owns an enormous sailing and fishing tradition, and has countless services for tourism.

- Saltwater lagoons:
The lagoons of La Mata and Torrevieja are the most important ones in Europe. They are separated by a strip of land but they interbreed through a canal. The lagoon of La Mata communicates with the sea through another canal and the crystallization occurs in the lagoon of Torrevieja, where the salt is extracted.

-Natural Park:
The Natural Park of the Lagoons of La Mata and Torrevieja is one of the most important humid areas in Europe because of its biological productivity, the variety of migratory birds, the changing vegetation according to the salinity levels, and the fauna represented by flamencos, reptiles, hares and foxes.
